The Dillon Wildcats earned a 51-49 win over the Marion Swamp Foxes on Tuesday night in Marion in boys varsity basketball action.
Marion took a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, but Dillon went 16-10 in the second to trail by just two points at 24-22. Marion inched ahead with a 14-13 third quarter, but with less than 30 seconds on the clock in the fourth, the game was tied up at 49. Dillon’s Que Bethea and Rakeem Fletcher each sank a free throw in those final seconds to lift the Wildcats over the Swamp Foxes, with Dillon outscoring Marion 16-11 in the fourth quarter.
Jaquan Knowlin earned a game-high 15 points for Dillon and Joe Manning added 14 points in the win while Que Bethea and Rakeem Fletcher each finished with three points. Lawrence Crouch scored seven for the Wildcats; Omar McCollum, 6; Gerome McLeod, 2; and Raheem McClam, 1.
Marion was led by Kevin Grant with a team-high 13 points, and Dahandry Foxworth with 10. Yamasi Buey added 9; DeShaun Avant, 5; Jordan Bell, 4; Marcus Bryant, 4; Jaquan Felton, 2; and Kelik Faulk, 2.
The Wildcats improved to 8-7 overall and are now 2-1 in Region 8-2A. Marion slips to 10-7 overall and 1-2 in the region.
Dillon will be at Loris this Friday night and at Waccamaw next Tuesday before hosting Aynor on Friday, January 30. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local team!
