The Latta Vikings earned a 75-63 win over the visiting Hemingway Tigers on Tuesday night in varsity boys basketball action.
Latta took a 17-16 lead in the first quarter, but Hemingway outscored the Vikings 23-19 in the second to lead 39-36 at the half. The Vikings outpaced the Tigers 19-12 in the third to pull ahead 55-51, and a 20-12 fourth quarter sealed the win for the Vikings.
Latta was led by TyQuan Porter with 19 points, including one three-pointer, and Tyreek McAlister with 15 points. Davonta Porter added 13 points in the win; Jordan Sims, 8; Kartilus McFadden, 7; Diez Mungro, 7; and Justin Hall, 4. Mungro also sank a three-point shot.
Hemingway was led by Clarence Jones with 12 points; Phillip Williams, 11; D’Netric Pressley, 10; Jordan Porchea, 8; Steven Palmer, 7; and Dontre Mack, 4. Carlis Pressley and Marquis Hampton each added two points in the effort, and Palmer sank one three-point shot for the Tigers.
The Vikings are now 7-4 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-A, while Hemingway slips to 4-12 overall and 2-1 in the region.
Latta will be away at Green Sea Floyds this Friday and home on Tuesday night to host Carvers Bay at 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
