Lady Gators Down Aynor, Fall to Tough Region 8-A Teams

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators earned a win over Class 2A’s Aynor Blue Jackets but took losses this week from Class A’s Hemingway and Carvers Bay in girls varsity basketball action.

On Wednesday, January 14, the Lady Gators traveled to Aynor and earned a 49-36 win over the Lady Blue Jackets.

Olivia McDaniel led the Lady Gators with a game-high 18 points and Jasmine Ford added 12 in the win. Kayla Page earned 9; Na’Kedra Page, 8; and Hannah Miller, 2.

Aynor was led by A. Rogers with 14 points; J. Littlejohn, 10; R. Richardson, 5; M. Barton, 3; K Gerald, 2; and A. Kroger, 2.

On Friday, Lake View traveled to Hemingway for a conference game against the Lady Tigers and fell 55-29.

The Tigers took a 7-5 lead in the first quarter, and outscored Lake View 15-11 in the second for a 22-16 lead at the half. Hemingway outpaced the Gators 12-4 in the third and 21-9 in the fourth to seal the win.

The Tigers were led by Diamond McFadden with a game-high 29 points and Zasia Thomas added 15 in the win. Miracle Polk scored five for the Lady Tigers; Latanya Barr, 4; and Kirsten Cooper and Niesha Cantey each added two.

Lake View was led by Olivia McDaniel with 13 points. Jasmine Ford and Na’Kedra Page each added seven, and Taylor Bethea earned two.

On Tuesday, the lady Gators were back at home to host Carvers Bay, falling 84-24 to the Lady Bears, who were ranked second in the state in Class A girls basketball.

Carvers Bay took a 26-6 lead in the first quarter and outscored Lake View by double-digits in the second and third, 24-2 and 23-5. Both teams added 11 points in the fourth as the Bears capped the win.

Quantashia Robinson earned a game-high 19 points for Carvers Bay, and Desaree Green added 16 with LaQuasha Cole earning 14. Blain added 9; Bromell, 8; Adams, 8; Young, 6; and Walker, 4.

Lake View was led by Olivia McDaniel with nine points and Jasmine Ford with eight. Janai Ford earned four points and Taylor Bethea added three.

The Lady Gators are now 6-4 overall and 0-3 in Region 8-A against teams that were all ranked in the top 10 in the latest basketball coaches polls.

The Lady Gators will be at Creek Bridge this Friday night and at Green Sea Floyds on Tuesday for more conference action, and next Friday the Gators will be at home to host Hemingway. Game time is 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams!
