Lide J. Miller, 96, pitched his first game Monday, with the Lake View Angels at the Field Of Dreams Park. The two loves of his life were people and baseball. He was the town comedian, coke drinker, watermelon grower, and tobacco farmer. He brought laughter to all he encountered. He never met a stranger and never left the crowd without a roar of laughter. He was Beloved by all who knew him.
He was the son of Elias Johnson and Delana Miller, and a lifelong resident of Dillon County. He was a member of Kemper Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother Wade, and sisters, Louise Miller, Rosalee Goodnight, Eunice Anderson, Blondell Flowers, and granddaughter Jeanie Carrol Miller.
Left to carry on his legacy are his loving and devoted wife of 64 yrs Hazel Scott Miller; sons, Steve Miller (Bunny), Dale Miller (Sandra), Mike Miller (Beth); daughters; Becky Hardee (Ken), Rita Martin (Ricky); brother, Dr. Ernest E. Miller; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 6-8 pm at Cooke Funeral Home. Funeral service was at Kemper Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014.
Burial followed at Lake View Cemetery with Rev. Haywood Proctor officiating.
