Dillon’s Lady Wildcats extended their win streak to 8-1 last week with wins over Marlboro County and Richmond County in girls varsity basketball action.

On Tuesday, December 16, the Lady Wildcats hosted Marlboro for a 33-27 win over the Bulldogs.

Dillon took a 6-5 lead in the first quarter and outscored Marlboro 9-4 in the second and 11-4 in the third for a 26-13 lead heading into the fourth. The Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 13-7 fourth quarter, but couldn’t close the gap.

Dillon’s Adriana McCollum lead the Lady Wildcats with nine points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. Yolanda Campbell added six points; Shar’Asia Samuel, 5; Da’Kerhia Samuel, 5; Kendra McLeod, 4; and Tejah Breeden, 4.

Marlboro was led by Bianca Covington and Armani Harley, each with nine points in the effort.
On Wednesday night, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Fairmont, North Carolina, for the opening round of the 2014 Robeson County Shootout. The Lady Wildcats took on Richmond County and dominated the court for a 73-25 win.

Richmond briefly held a 4-2 lead before the Lady Wildcats broke loose for a 30-0 run to take a firm lead in the first half. Dillon lead 45-13 at the half, and made a 12-4 run in the second for a 40-point lead.

Dillon was led by Jelissa Fentzlaff with 13 points, and Adriana McCollum, Shar’Asia Samuel, and Khamele Manning who each added 12.

Head Coach Shawn Johnson noted that the Lady Wildcats are still a young team and are still relying on their defense and rebounding. He added that the Wildcats practice covering the whole floor and were constantly adjusting to what Richmond was doing on the court. “We cover sideline to sideline and baseline to baseline.”

The Lady Wildcats improved to 8-1 on the season and were scheduled to advance in the winners bracket to face South Robeson on Friday, December 19. The winner will advance to the championship game on Saturday, December 20, while the loser will advance to the loser bracket to play for third place.

South Robeson defeated Fairmont 48-23 with A’Terria Quick earning 28 points in the win. The Lady Wildcats have already played South Robeson twice this season, earning a 70-23 win in the first meeting and a 57-37 win in the second.
