To The Editor:
What would your selection be? Many come to mind immediately. I would crown South of the Border as my runner up. Wow, it’s hard to imagine them as a runner up in Dillon. After all the wildly successful business can hold its own in regards to any business in the state and beyond. In recent years I have become fascinated by this business and what a mastermind South of the Border’s Alan Schafer truly was. Dillon County owes a great deal of gratitude to the legend and his family. Certainly The Herald operations would have to be included in the conversation which has demonstrated longevity through family committed excellence. Dillon Provision, Dillon Family Medicine, Cooper’s Funeral Home, The Kitchen , amongst a host of others all have legitimate stakes in the bid for the title.
But there is ’ONE’ that stands above them all. The last two CEO’S have been extreme visionaries. They both believed in hiring local department heads to run their respective divisions. Their department heads were diverse not only by race but by experience, mixing in wisdom with mature managers alongside young managers with new ideas. The company is known for attracting high skill set employees and their performance easily indicated their passion for the product they produce. In fact their product is in wide demand and customers can’t seem to get enough. The product is reasonably priced and delivers on all claims. Excessive pride exist in the workmanship . The innovation and work ethic of the management and employees are legendary and has put the company on the map. The employment history has a long line of family tradition with both fathers and sons working at some point for the organization. Even kids at a young age dream of having the opportunity to work for this elite company. The CEOs have done a masterful job of branding, marketing and maintaining the success in this highly competitive industry. Their logo is immediately recognizable. Year after year the company is exalted as one of the top 10 business in the state of South Carolina .Yes right here in Dillon, better known as the Dillon Wildcats…… a success model that any company would be behooved to follow! I sure learned much from my employment there.
