Allan Brigman of Latta has located a cast iron door that was used years ago on tobacco barn furnaces when tobacco was cured with wood.
The door was found in a tobacco barn near Magnolia Cemetery.
This door was used on tobacco barn furnaces years ago when tobacco was cured with wood. The lettering on the door states that the door was made by The Dillon Foundry, Dillon S.C.
Research has not been able to find at what time or the location of the foundry was located.
He was told by one person that the foundry might have been located near where the old Jones Coal Company was located beside the railroad. Anyone with information as to where the Dillon Foundry might have been located is asked to call Mr. Brigman at 752-5270 or you can contact Carley Wiggins at 632-0698.
There is not a date on the door. It is just an opinion that it may have been made between 1888 when the town of Dillon was incorporated until 1910 when Dillon County was formed. Any information would be appreciated.
