The Dillon Wildcats will face a familiar foe this week in the second round of the Class AA, Division I playoffs.

Dillon easily handled Aynor on Friday night for a 41-16 win, while Waccamaw downed Lake Marion 21-6. The Wildcats and the Warriors will play in Dillon this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Dillon enters the game with an undefeated 11-0 record which includes a 47-7 win over Waccamaw on Friday, October 31. The Warriors hold a 6-5 record heading into the game and finished with a 2-3 record in the region.

In the final statewide media poll, the Wildcats remained firmly at the top of the Class 2A polls, and last Friday night, the Wildcats broke school records. Quarterback Avery McCall broke the school’s record for completions in a season, completing nine passes to run his total up to 134 completions. McCall also set records for most yards at 2,433 so far this season, and for completion percentage, 72.8. He also set single-game records for passing yards at 315, attempts with 35, and completions with 27. He is also only three touchdown passes away from breaking the single-season record of 32 set by Tyquan Hayes in 2010.

Eri’Reon Hayes also broke a school record on Friday, catching four passes to set a new single-season reception record of 52. He also has set the single-season records for touchdown receptions at 19 and receiving yards at 1,133 on the season, and he has set the record for single-game receptions at 10 against Loris earlier this season.

In addition to McCall and Hayes, the Wildcats will continue to bring a strong rushing offense from Johnny Allen and Jamison Chapman, who have 24 touchdowns and over 1400 yards combined. Jermaine McDaniel continues to lead the team in tackles on defense, and Randall Davis still leads the team in interceptions.

In the other lower state bracket game this Friday, Loris will travel to Ridgeland-Hardeeville. Loris shut out Wade Hampton 42-0 last Friday night, while Ridgeland defeated Garrett 51-19. If Loris wins this Friday, they will likely face the Wildcats for the lower state championship.

In the upper state bracket, Fairfield-Central will host Strom Thurmond this Friday and Woodruff will host Newberry. Fairfield defeated Md-Carolina 55-14 to advance, while Strom Thurmond defeated Pendleton. Newberry went 52-10 over Indian Land, and Woodruff defeated Powdersville 42-27.

In Class 2A, Division II, Woodland is set to host Andrews this Friday in the lower state bracket, and Timberland will host Whale Branch, while in the upper state, Chesnee will host Keenan and Ninety Six will host Abbeville.

In the final state polls, Timberland was ranked second behind the Wildcats, followed by Fairfield Central, Chesnee, Loris, Woodruff, Batesburg-Leesville, Newberry, and Cheraw. Strom Thurmond and Powdersville were tied for second.

In Class A, Division I, the Vikings were eliminated by St. John’s by just one point, 8-7, on Friday night. St. John’s will host Bamberg-Ehrhardt, who defeated Hannah-Pamplico 48-14. Allendale-Fairfax will host Hemingway this Friday, and in the upper state, Christ Church will host St. Joseph’s, and McBee will host Williston-Elko.

In Division II, top-seeded Lake View shut down C. E. Murray 47-6 on Friday night behind running from Reco Brown. Brown rushed for 210 yards and five touchdowns, bringing his season total up to 1,102 yards rushing for 13 touchdowns. Duane Nichols earned 100 yards to put his total up to 623, and Deante Bridgette added 62 yards and two touchdowns as he continued to build momentum for the Gators.

Lake View will carry an 8-3 record into this Friday’s game against Timmonsville. The Whirlwinds are 4-7 overall and finished region play with a 2-2 record, entering the playoffs as the fifth seeded team. Timmonsville defeated Military Magnet 67-12 on Friday night to advance.

Timmonsville has been lead this season by Shykell Jackson with over 350 yards passing, and Terrence McFadden with over 800 yards rushing, and on defense, Jalen Moore has over 100 tackles. McFadden scored two touchdowns as the Whirlwinds added 39 points in the in the second half on Friday.

In the other Division II lower state game, Cross will be at Estill. Cross defeated Branchville 50-14 on Friday night, and Estill shut out Lincoln with a devastating 70-0 final score.

In the upper state, Lamar shut out North 62-0 to advance and will host Ridge Spring-Monetta, who defeated Great Falls 33-21 on Friday. Hunter-Kinard-Tyler defeated Blackville-Hilda 44-7 to advance and will host McCormick, who defeated Whitmire 31-9.

In the final polls for the season, Lake View managed to secure 10th place, with Christ Church, Allendale-Fairfax, Hemingway, Bamberg-Ehrhardt, and McBee rounding out the top five. All five teams are in the Division I bracket. Williston-Elko, also in Division I, took sixth place, followed by Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, Lamar, and Estill, which are all in Division II.

In SCISA playoff action, Dillon Christian School defeated Colleton Prep 47-19 to advance to the lower state semi-final. The Warriors will face Curtis Baptist, who were the Region II champions in Class A. Both teams have a 9-2 record entering the game.

The Warriors should continue to be a threat in the playoffs with a strong defense lead by Luke Price, with over 130 tackles, and Thomas Evans, with 120. Matthew Price has 9.5 sacks to his credit this season, and Michael Minges leads the team in interceptions with five.

On offense, the combination of Jim Carr and TeShaun Lane continues to dominate. Carr has completed over 90 passes this season for 1,441 and 14 touchdowns, while Lane has 1,472 yards rushing for 19 touchdowns on 191 carries. Luke Price leads the team in receptions with 550 yards and seven touchdowns on 36 receptions, and Anthony Williams has 398 yards receiving on 20 catches for six touchdowns.

For Curtis Baptist, Christian Reid leads the team in passing with 827 yards on 44 completions for 10 touchdowns. Reid also has 1,092 yards rushing for 13 touchdowns, and Shaun Brown has 538 yards on 60 carries for four touchdowns. Verenzo Holmes has 239 yards receiving on 13 receptions for six touchdowns, and Jaylen Watson has 215 yards on 25 receptions for two touchdowns.

Cameron Dorsey leads the team defensively with 87 solo tackles and 26 assists, and Naquan Wright has 82 solo tackles with 27 assists. Dorsey also leads the team with 10 sacks for 45 yards lost.

In the other Class A brackets, Williamsburg defeated Dorchester Academy 42-20 on Friday night, and Holly Hill defeated Hilton Head Prep 41-17. Williamsburg will host Holly Hill this Friday night.

All game times are set for 7:30 p.m., and Dillon and Lake View will be at home, so make plans to attend to support our local teams in the playoffs.
