The annual business meeting of the Friends of the Dillon County Library System was held on Saturday, October 18, 2014.
The meeting was held in the meeting room of the historic Latta Library, at 12 noon.  Helen B. Moody, President and Local Genealogist, presided.
The agenda included discussions regarding the organization’s finance, past purchases and projects for the coming year.  The organization’s main objective is to promote reading while working to enhance services at the three county libraries. The organization is 501c3 tax exempted, and all donations made to the organization can be deducted when you file your income tax return.
The meeting followed a fundraising activity where tee shirts, depicting a picture of the Latta library, and used books were available for sale.

Many members and citizens chose to specify that their contribution be used to buy a book in memory of a loved one, while others donate and asked that their money be used in whatever capacity would best benefit the library. We welcome all donations regardless of how small. This past year almost $83 dollars was raised by collecting donations as small as a nickel at a time.  We thank you because $83 dollars will make it possible for three children to receive books for an entire year.  We thank you for every nickel and dime donated.
Donors should remember that unless specified, donations, membership dues, and fundraising activities benefit the library in the town where the donor resides or the activity took place.
Now is a good time for those who are not friends to become friends and help to improve the quality of library service in our county.  For more information about membership, please call any Dillon County library:  Dillon 774-0330, Latta 752-5389, Lake View 759-2692.  Thank you!
