Improvements continue to be made at the Dillon County Airport.
According to an update on September 29th, three main issues are being addressed. They are:
Issue #1: The runway has substantial cracks.
Status: Rejuvenator has been installed on the runway. Markings have been painted.
Issue #2: Trees obstructing ends of runway
Status: NaturChem has started tree clearing on back side of runway.
Issue #3: No tie downs on premises for airplanes.
Status: SC Aeronautics Commission will get tie downs installed soon.
The council approved Option 4, which is the recommended option from the SC Aeronautics Commission. This includes:
1. A new airfield lighting vault, which will consist of a new 54”x54”x61” high metal enclosure, on a concrete pad, to house the runway regulator and the airfield lighting controls.
2. Replacing the existing threshold, runway and taxiway lights with NEW lights, including the isolation transformer and mounting stake.
3. Replacing the existing 36” rotating beacon with a Hali-Brite HBM 150/2 beacon.
The cost is $77,142. Dillon County will pay either 25 percent or 40 percent.
