Dillon County Department of Juvenile Justice staff, volunteers, and clients participated in Restoring Carolinas.
During this even the staff of DJJ and our clients will sponsor a community service event in which we give back to the community. The Dillon County office has served several agencies since they began the Restoring Carolinas event. One time they helped paint the inside of the Health Department, as well as assisting in doing yard work/landscaping around the building. On that same date they assisted Helping Hands with cleaning their shelves and restocking. They planted flowers outside the Gibson building one year. Last year, their clients wrote poems, framed them, and donated their poem to a resident at B&B Nursing Home. They also framed a quilt made by their clients and donated the quilt to B&B Nursing Home.
This year they did a courtesy car wash for Law Enforcement vehicles on Saturday, September 6th.
The car wash helped build relationships between youth and law enforcement, teach the youth work skills, give them a sense of pride in their work, and teach them to give back to their community instead of participating in delinquent activities.
There were 13 youth, 2 volunteers (James Leslie and Derrick McInnis), and 4 DJJ staff members (Cynthia Ford, Joanna Hayes, Torrance White, and Shannon Mixon).
There were a total of 24 cars washed from the Dillon County Sheriff;s Department and City of Dillon Police Department.
“We enjoyed teaching our youth about giving back to their community, providing them with a work skill, and encouraging them to be proud of their work,” said Dillon County DJJ Director Cynthia Ford.
