The Dillon Kiwanis All Stars battled back from a loss on Sunday to earn a place in the final four of the 2014 Dixie Youth Majors World Series in Lexington, South Carolina.
After falling 16-0 to South Lake, Florida on Sunday, Dillon battled their way to a 6-5 win over Alabama on Monday. John Rourke came up big with a three-run homer in the sixth inning to help Dillon stay alive in the tournament.
In Monday’s winners bracket game, Mississippi defeated Florida 18-7, while in the elimination bracket, Louisiana edged Georgia 8-7 and Virginia defeated Texas 8-3.
On Tuesday, Dillon faced Ville Platte, Louisiana, for the second time in the tournament and earned a 12-7 win to stay alive in the series.
Dillon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Rourke hit a two-run homer for his second home run of the series. But the game was tied 6-6 in the fifth when Tristian Brigman hit a three-run homer to lift Dillon to the win. The Dillon All Stars added three more runs in the sixth inning to put the game away and advance to the final four.
Brigman earned a complete-game win on the mound, striking out four and allowing seven hits, three walks, and three earned runs.
Rourke was 2-for-3 at bat, and Noah Carter was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In Tuesday’s other games, Mississippi downed North Carolina 14-3 to remain undefeated, and Florida bumped off Virginia with an 11-0 shut out.
Dillon was scheduled to face Columbia, Mississippi at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while West Robeson, North Carolina was set to face Florida at 5:45.
Mississippi is the only undefeated team in the tournament, and if they win, they will face the winner of the North Carolina/Florida game at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday for the World Series championship. If Dillon defeats Mississippi, Dillon will face the winner of the NC/FL game, and the winner of that game will face Mississippi for the title at 6:00 p.m.
