The 2014 Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament began on Saturday, July 19, at Freedom Florence.

Dillon defeated Jefferson 7-5 on Saturday and shut out Green Sea Floyds 12-0 to advance in the tournament.

Elsewhere in the first day of action, Lake Marion defeated Clinton 11-1; Hampton defeated North Charleston 10-1; Green Sea Floyds defeated Belton 10-2; Parks Field American edged Conway 1-0; and McLeod Park shut out Midland Valley 8-0.

The action kicked off again on Sunday with elimination games, with Conway knocking off Midland Valley 8-2; Jefferson defeating Belton 9-3; and North Charleston defeating Clinton 6-2.

In the winner brackets, Lake Marion edged Hampton 5-4 and Parks Field American defeated McLeod Park 9-7.

Monday’s scheduled elimination games included Conway and Jefferson, North Charleston and Green Sea Floyds, and McLeod Park and Hampton. Dillon was set to take on Lake Marion in the winners bracket, while Parks Field American got the evening off, but will face the winner of the Dillon/Lake Marion game tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Dillon/Lake Marion loser will face the winner of the Hampton/McLeod Park game in an elimination match at 6:30 p.m.

State tournament play will continue through Thursday night. The state champion will advance to the 2014 World Series beginning on Saturday, August 9, in Lexington South Carolina.
