Latta’s 12U Dixie Ponytails claimed the 2014 State Championship on Tuesday night in Iva, South Carolina.
The Ponytails went undefeated in the tournament and will advance to the World Series in North Myrtle Beach beginning Sunday, August 3, and Monday, August 4.
Latta opened the tournament with a 12-3 win over Hanahan and shut out Iva 4-0 in their second game. The Latta Ponytails defeated Lake Marion 19-8 on Monday to advance to the championship, where they defeated Hanahan 5-1 to claim the title.
Skyler McCoy hit a three-run homer against Lake Marion, and Arica Gandy pitched a no hitter against Iva. Gandy also pitched nine strike outs in five innings in the championship game.
In the 15U Belles division, Dillon’s Dixie Belles fell 7-0 to Iva on Monday night and were eliminated from the tournament. Iva was set to take on Georgetown on Tuesday night for the state title. The winner will advance to the World Series in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
In Bluffton, Latta’s 6U SweeTees defeated Beaufort 21-0 in three innings on Monday to advance to the state championship to face Aynor on Tuesday. The game was delayed by rain but continued on Wednesday, with the SweeTees falling 33-31.
Aynor will advance to the inaugural SweeTees World Series in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
