Each year The American Legion, Post 0032 in Dillon, SC sponsors delegates for Palmetto Boys State.
The program will be held on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson, SC from June 8th through June 14th.
The Boys State program helps develop leadership skills and builds confidence in the young men that attend. There are activities for the delegates such as athletics, college bowl trivia, media school and law school.
They are provided the opportunity to run for offices or campaign for someone who is running for office in the City, County, State or Federal government.
Depending on the schedules of our elected officials, they may also meet the Governor, Lt. Governor or a Congressman or Senator.
Being selected to attend Palmetto Boys State is an honor. To be selected, the rising senior young men must be recommended by their high school. They are then interviewed by members of The American Legion Post 0032. The interview process can be difficult; the young men are asked questions about their city, county, state and federal government. They are also graded on their recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States, their appearance and their attitude.
The following are the delegates and alternates for this year:
Dillon Christian School: Landry Collins, Delegate; Tate Hamilton, Alternate
Dillon High School: Gunnar Grossetti, Qydarrius Bethea, and Joseph Scott, Delegates; C.J. Sowells and Ryan Rouse, Alternates
Latta High School: Jonathan Hayes and Zachary Roberts, Delegates; Austin Miller, Alternate.
