Dillon’s Lady Wildcats earned a 7-0 shutout win over Silver Bluff on Monday night to stay alive in the Class 2A Lower State softball playoffs.

The Wildcats took a one run lead in the bottom of the first with Shayna Covington reaching on a bunt to third. With two outs, Covington stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Tara Grimsley hit a one to the pitcher that hit the pitcher on the leg, allowing her to reach first while Covington scored. Silver Bluff left runners on first and second in the top of the inning.

Dillon picked up another in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead. Taylor Price hit one over the second baseman for a single, and Tyieshah Jones hit one to the right over first for a double. With runners on second and third, Shar’Asia Samuel hit a grounder to first for an RBI but Covington flew out to end the inning.

Silver Bluff again left two runners on base in the top of the second, and loaded the bases in the top of the third but ground out before they could score. The Wildcats also left runners on second and third in the bottom of the fourth, but Dillon added four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and sealed the win with one more run in the sixth.

Shaquailla German pitched a complete game for four hits and five walks, striking out 13. Karly Kinard took the loss, pitching six innings for eight hits, seven runs, six earned runs, three walks, and one out.

At bat for the Wildcats, Shayna Covington went 2-for-4 with two runs and three stolen bases; Tara Grimsley went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 2-for-3 with a triple; and Shaquailla German went 2-for-4. Dillon had eight hits and two errors in the win.
Silver Bluff had four hits and two errors in the loss.

Dillon improved to 19-6 overall and was scheduled to travel to Barnwell on Wednesday night for another elimination bracket match up. Barnwell fell 10-3 to Waccamaw on Monday night as the Warriors advanced to the lower state championship on Friday. The winner of Wednesday’s game will face Waccamaw for the state title.
