Latta’s Lady Vikings held on for a 4-3 win over Johnsonville in nine innings on Monday night to stay alive in the Class A Lower State softball playoffs.

The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and held it until the top of the sixth, when Johnsonville managed three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Lady Vikings tied things up with a run in the bottom of the inning, and a scoreless seventh sent the game into extra innings.

The Vikings held off Johnsonville through the eighth and ninth innings, and in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Latta’s Madison Owens singled to score Kyra Grant from third base to give the Vikings the win.

Anna Rogers earned the win on the mound, pitching all nine innings for four hits, three walks, and three runs, two earned, while striking out 13. Johnsonville’s Marley Young took the loss, pitching 4.6 innings for three hits, two outs, one walk, and one run. M. Thornhill pitched four innings for the Flashes, giving up four hits, one walk, and three runs with two outs.

At bat for Latta, Madison Owens went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored; Camryn Sawyer went 1-for-4 with one run scored; and Genesis Anderson went 1-for-3. Latta had seven hits and one error in the win.

Macy Poston led Johnsonville at bat, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. The Lady Flashes had four hits and two errors in the effort.

Latta improved to 19-6 and was scheduled to travel to Lake View on Wednesday night to face the Lady Wild Gators in an elimination game. Lake View fell 7-0 to East Clarendon on Monday night after defeating Latta 3-2 on Friday in the opening round of lower state playoffs. The winner of the elimination game will face East Clarendon for the lower state title on Friday.
