It was a tough weekend for Dillon’s teams, and a battle of rivals for Latta and Lake View in the opening rounds of the lower state playoffs.

In Class 2A baseball action, the Dillon Wildcats fell 6-1 to Loris on Saturday to send them to the elimination bracket tonight. The Wildcats will face Wade Hampton at 6:30 p.m. while Loris will host Bishop England. The Battling Bishops defeated Wade Hampton 6-3 on Saturday.

In Class A, both Latta and Lake View earned wins to advance, with the Vikings defeating East Clarendon 4-3 and the Wild Gators downing Johnsonville. Latta will travel to Lake View tonight at 6:00 p.m. for a clash of local rivals, with the winner advancing directly to the lower state championship on Friday. Johnsonville will host East Clarendon on Monday, with the winner facing the Lake View/Latta loser on Wednesday.

In softball action, Dillon fell 8-5 to Waccamaw in the Class 2A lower state playoffs. The Lady Wildcats will host Silver Bluff tonight at 6:00 p.m. in an elimination bracket game. Silver Bluff fell 14-7 to Barnwell on Saturday, and Barnwell will travel to Waccamaw tonight.

In Class A, Latta and Lake View battled to a 3-2 finish with the Lady Gators claiming the win on Friday. East Clarendon also took a 3-2 win over Johnsonville on Saturday. Both local teams will be at home tonight, with Lake View hosting East Clarendon and Latta hosting Johnsonville at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Vikings will be facing elimination while the Lady Gators will be vying for a spot in the lower state championship.
