Dillon, Latta, and Lake View are all headed to the first round of SCHSL state baseball and softball playoffs.
In baseball action, the Dillon Wildcats will be hosting Kingstree tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the District VIII playoffs. The Wildcats finished the regular season with an undefeated 10-0 region record and a 15-1 record overall. The Wildcats were ranked third in Class 2A in the SC Baseball Coaches poll, with Chesnee and Mid-Carolina in first and second.
In the other District VIII game, Timberland was scheduled to host Aynor.
In Class 2A softball, Dillon’s Lady Wildcats are set to host Lake Marion at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats claimed the Region 8-A title and were once again ranked at the top of the 2A softball coaches polls this week. In the lower bracket, Timberland is set to host Aynor.
In Class A baseball, Latta, the Region 8-A champ, will host Hemingway tonight at 5:30 p.m. in District VIII while Lake View will travel to Carver’s Bay in District VI. Latta was ranked second in the state in the latest baseball polls, just behind St. Joseph’s.
In Class A softball, Latta finished in second place and will host Scott’s Branch tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the District V bracket, while Lake View finished third and will travel to Carver’s Bay in District VI. Lake View was ranked just ahead of Latta in the latest softball polls, with the Gators in sixth and Vikings in seventh. Dixie took the top spot in the polls with East Clarendon in second.
The winners of tonight’s games will face each other on Saturday, May 3, while the losers will square off in an elimination bracket matchup. A second elimination game will be played on Monday, May 5, and the District Championships are set for Wednesday, May 7.
