The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors traveled to Lumberton on Monday night for a non-region game with the Lady Gators of Antioch Christian Academy.
The Gators brought the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 10-9 win. The two North Carolina game umpires congratulated both teams on this being one of the more exciting games they had called this season.
In the top of the first inning, the Warriors produced five runs from five walked batters, an error, and one base hit. The Gators added four runs in the bottom of the first inning from three base hits, a walk, an error, and some bad throws at the plate and base.
The Warriors held the 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning but the Gators took the lead 7-5, getting the three runs on three Warrior errors, two fielder’s choice hits, and a base hit. The Gators increased their lead to 9-5 in the fifth, getting two more runs on four Warrior errors.
The Warriors closed at 9-8 in the top of the sixth, adding three runs on two hits, two errors, and a fielder’s choice hit, and the Warrior defense kept the Gators off the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Makinleigh Seals lead off with a double in the top of the seventh and was brought home by Sarah Fitzgibbon who doubled to centerfield to tie the game at 9-9. The Warriors were unable to add any more runs sending the Gators to bat in the bottom of the seventh.
Makinleigh Seals fielded a pop fly at second base for the first out and it looked as if the game would be headed into extra innings, but three straight errors by over anxious Warrior fielders allowed the Gators to get a run and end the game with a 10-9 win.
On the mound for the Gators, Lee Ann Nobles pitched one inning, posted one strikeout, walked five batters, and gave up one hit and five runs; and Lexie Little pitched six innings, posted five strikeouts and two walked batters, and allowed five hits and four runs scored for the win.
On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted five strikeouts, one walked batter, and one batter to base on a hit by a pitch, and allowed seven hits and 10 runs scored for the loss.
