Dillon’s Lady Wildcats and Hartsville’s Lady Red Foxes met in a battle of top-ranked teams with Hartsville earning a 9-1 win on Monday night in varsity softball action.
The Red Foxes, ranked number one in Class 3A, scored their first run in the bottom of the second before picking up four runners in the fifth and four in the sixth for a 9-0 lead. The Wildcats, ranked number one on in Class 2A, scored their lone run in the top of the seventh.
The Red Foxes swept the series, previously defeating Dillon 4-3 in the season opener on March 14. The Wildcats, who have been consistently ranked in the top two in Class 2A all season and reclaimed the top spot this week, were held to just three hits.
Cayla Drotar earned the win for Hartsville, pitching a complete game for three hits, one earned run, and one walk, striking out 10.
Shaquailla German took the loss for Dillon, pitching 4.6 innings for three hits, five runs, two earned runs, and three walks, striking out two.
Drotar also led Hartsville at bat, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and one RBI. Madeline Smith went 1for-2 with a home run, and Katie Parker went 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI. Hartsville had 10 hits in the win.
Dillon’s three hits came from Rebecca Callahan, 2-for-4, and Tara Grimsley, 1-for-4.
Hartsville improved to 20-1 overall and is currently undefeated at 9-0 in Region 6-3A. Dillon slipped to 12-3 overall and is undefeated at 8-0 in Region 8-2A.
The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to host Loris on Wednesday night and will host Aynor on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Dillon is scheduled to wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at Carolina Forest at 6:00 p.m.
