Dillon’s Tara Grimsley received a special achievement award from the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports (CAWS) at their ceremony to honor their fall players of the year.

Grimsley was given special recognition as a female in a non-traditional sport and received the special achievement award for being the first female to ever score in a state championship football game.

She helped the Wildcats in back-to-back state championship wins in 2012 and 2013. In 2012 she went 57-of-64 on PATs including a 3-of-3 performance in the state championship. In 2013, she had 44 consecutive PATs and went 4-of-5 in the state title game.

Dru Nix of the South Carolina High School League presented Grimsley with the award at the ceremony on Sunday, January 26.

Grimsley signed on to play softball at Western Carolina University in November. She is the daughter of Timmy and Terry Grimsley.
