The Latta Vikings shut out Darlington 2-0 but fell 2-0 to Marlboro County in the first day of the FCU Diamond Challenge at Cheraw on Monday.

In the opening game, Latta took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and added their second run in the bottom of the fourth while holding off the Falcons.

Christian Hendrix got the win for the Vikings, pitching five innings for four hits, two walks, and four outs. Darlington’s Kam Dixon took the loss, pitching four innings for three hits, four walks, three hits, one earned run, and five outs.

At bat for the Vikings, John Kever Love went 1-for-1 with one RBI and Jeremy Jenkins went 1-for-1. Latta had just three hits in the win.

For Darlington, Holden Carter went 2-for-2. The Falcons had four hits and one error in the effort.

In the second game, Latta fell 2-0 to Marlboro County with the Bulldogs scoring one run each in the bottom of the second and the third.

Marlboro’s Connor Pate earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings for one hit, two walks, and five outs. Latta’s Travis Power took the loss, pitching three innings for three hits, three walks, two outs, and one earned run. John Kever Love pitched one inning of relief for one out.

At bat for the Bulldogs, Lewis went 2-for-2 and Barfield went 1-for-2, with Rogers and Ellis each picking up one runner. Marlboro had five hits and one error in the win.

Love had Latta’s only hit, and the Vikings had one error in the effort.

Rain delayed the second day of tournament action until Wednesday. Wilson and Cheraw were scheduled to play at 2:00 p.m., followed by Marlboro County and Lamar at 4 p.m. Darlington was set to face the loser of the Wilson/Cheraw game at 6 p.m., and Latta was scheduled to face the Wilson/Cheraw winner at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
