The Latta Vikings shut out region rival Johnsonville 9-0 on Tuesday night in varsity baseball action.
The Vikings picked up two runners in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead and added five in the third and one each in the fifth and sixth for the win.
Christian Hendrix struck out 14 Johnsonville batters in seven innings, allowing just one hit to take the win on the mound. Johnsonville’s J. Long pitched six innings for the loss, striking out nine and allowing 10 hits.
At bat for the Vikings, Avery Berry went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored; Christian Hendrix went 2-for-4 with two RBI; and JB Bowen went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. The Vikings had 10 hits in the win.
Johnsonville’s T. Newell went 1-for-3 for the Flashes’ only hit in the effort.
Latta improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in Region 8-A.
The Vikings are scheduled to travel to McBee tonight at 5:30 p.m. and will be at home on Friday to host Green Sea Floyds at 5:30 p.m. Next week, the Vikings are scheduled to participate in the Spring Break Tournament in Cheraw before returning to regular season action on Monday, April 21, at home against McBee.
