Dillon’s Lady Wildcats earned an 8-1 win over Class 4A’s Carolina Forest Panthers on Thursday and held Marion’s Lady Swamp Foxes to just one hit in a 14-3 region win on Friday night in varsity softball action.
Carolina Forest scored their only run in the top of the second inning on Thursday night, but Dillon picked up two runners in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The Lady Wildcats added a run in the third, and picked up two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth and held off the Panthers to seal the win.
Taylor Price earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching a complete game and facing 29 batters for four hits, one walk, and one run scored. Carolina Forest’s Emily Merrian took the loss, pitching 3.6 innings for nine hits, five runs, five earned runs, two walks, and two outs.
Cheyenne McKenna led the Panthers at bat, going 2-for-4 in the effort.
At bat for Dillon, Tara Grimsley went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and one run scored; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 3-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, and one run scored; Erin Bailey went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and one run scored; Auh’Keria Smiling went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, one RBI, and one run scored; Shar’Asia Samuel went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored; Shaquailla German went 1-for-3 with one RBI; Rebecca Callahan went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run scored; Taylor Price went 1-for-3; Shayna Covington went 1-for-4 with one run scored; and Taylor Blackmon stole a base.
In the field, German made nine put outs; Tara Grimsley made four; Covington and Da’Kerhia Samuel each made two; and Bailey and Callahan each made one. Price and Leah McMillan each made three assists in the field, with Callahan making two and Covington, Grimsley, and Briana Froneberger each making one.
On Friday, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Marion and earned a 14-3 win over the Swamp Foxes in five innings. Dillon jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and held kept Marion at bay until the bottom of the third, when the Lady Foxes picked up three runners. The Wildcats responded with four runs in the top of the fourth to lead 8-3, and sealed the win with six runs in the top of the fifth.
Shaquailla German got the win on the mound, holding Marion to just one hit with three runs, three walks, and two hit by pitch. She struck out 13 as she improved to 5-2 on the mound this season. Pressley Spivey took the loss for Marion, pitching all five innings for 12 hits, 14 runs, nine earned runs, one walk, and one out.
At bat for the Wildcats, Shayna Covington went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and three runs scored; Rebecca Callahan went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored; Shaquailla German went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored; Tara Grimsley went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, three RBI, and three runs scored; Taylor Price went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI; Shar’Asia Samuel went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and two runs scored; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 1-for-3 with one RBI; and Erin Bailey scored one run.
The Wildcats improved to 10-2 with the wins and 6-0 in Region 8-2A.
Dillon was scheduled to host Lake View for a double header on Monday night, weather permitting, and will be at Mullins tonight and at Waccamaw on Thursday, with both games starting at 6:30 p.m.
