The Latta Vikings earned a 7-1 win over Hannah-Pamplico in varsity baseball action last week but fell 4-3 to Johnsonville on Friday.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead over Hannah-Pamplico in the top of the first but the Raiders tied things up with a run in the bottom of the third. But Latta picked up five runners in the top of the fourth for a 6-1 lead and sealed the win with a run in the top of the sixth.

Christian Hendrix earned the win on the mound, pitching seven innings for five hits, one run, one walk, and four outs. Hannah-Pamplico’s Cooper took the loss, pitching seven innings for nine hits, seven runs, six earned runs, two walks, and one out.

At bat for the Vikings, Josh Bowen went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Jeremy Jenkins went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Latta had nine hits in the win.

Hannah-Pamplico was led by N. Pilotte with two hits as the Raiders earned a total of five in the effort.

On Friday, the Vikings traveled to Johnsonville for a 4-3 loss to the Flashes in extra innings.

Latta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and improved it to 3-0 with two runs in the top of the sixth. But Johnsonville broke loose for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie things up at 3-3. Neither team could cross the plate in the seventh, forcing the game into extra innings where Johnsonville was able to capture the win with a lone run in the bottom of the eighth.

Johnsonville’s J. Long earned the win, striking out four in eight innings. Latta’s John Kever Love pitched seven innings for six outs.

At bat, Donell Stanley had three hits and two RBI for the Vikings, and Christian Hendrix had two hits. Latta had a total of eight hits in the effort.

Johnsonville was led by J. Thompson with two hits and a RBI and J. Prosser picked up a RBI. The Flashes had seven hits in the win.

Latta is now 3-1 in the regular season. The Vikings will be away tonight to face Green Sea-Floyds and away on Thursday to face Darlington. Latta is scheduled to be back at home on Friday, March 28, to host Hannah-Pamplico at 5:30 p.m.
