Former Dillon Wildcat Kwinton Smith has transferred from the University of South Carolina after two seasons with the Gamecocks.

Smith redshirted in his freshman season and appeared in 11 games last season, mostly on special teams. He made five catches for the Gamecocks for 42-yards, but Smith was academically ineligible to play in the January 1 Capital One Bowl.

Smith was third on the depth chart as a receiver this spring, but is now reportedly back home mulling his options. He is expected to transfer to FCS James Madison.

At 6-foot-4 and 202 pounds, Smith was a top prospect when he signed with USC in 2012. He caught 34 passes for 564 yards and 10 touchdowns in his senior year with Dillon, and had offers from several schools. He was a Shrine Bowl selection and was chosen to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.

Smith was also a 14th round draft pick for the Texas Rangers in the 2012 MLB Draft, but turned down the offer. He had a .438 batting average with the Wildcats baseball team, with four home runs and 13 RBIs in his senior year. He also went 3-0 on the mound with 25 strikeouts and an earned run average of 1.27 in 22 innings. Smith tried out for the USC baseball team, but did not make the cut.
