The Lady Golden Eagles of Pee Dee Academy downed the Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School 14-3 in Dillon on Tuesday.

The Warriors got themselves in a hole early by allowing 11 unearned runs. The Golden Eagles are a much improved team this year but the Warriors made some critical fielding errors and had a poor at bat in innings one and two to find themselves down 8-0 at the end of two.

The Warriors tested three first time pitchers and all three gave an admirable performance. Only three hits were given up by Warrior pitchers Sarah Fitzgibbon, Samantha Carpenter and Greta Seay. There were 14 Golden Eagle batters walked to base but ten of those went down with full counts and some close calls at the plate.

Down 12-0 in the bottom of the third, the Warriors’ leadoff batter, Madison Moody, got to first on a hit but was later called out at third. Emilie Martin and Madison King made it to base on walks and Samantha Carpenter sent a double to center field to score both runners. Carpenter would steal third and come home on a bad throw to the plate to give the Warriors three runs.

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 14-3 lead and this was the final scoring as the fifth inning was scoreless and the game ended on the 10-run lead fifth inning mercy rule.

On the mound for the Golden Eagles, Kelbie Huggins posted four strikeouts, no hits, and one walked batter, allowing no runs scored for the win in two innings on the mound. Haley Scott posted eight strikeouts and three walked batters and gave up three hits and three runs scored in three innings pitched in relief.
