The McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment & Research has opened on the campus of McLeod Regional Medical Center. Dedicated to the physical and emotional needs of cancer patients and their families, the new Cancer Center is a beacon of hope and healing for the communities McLeod serves. As one of the most patient-centered environments, the Center has been designed to offer the highest quality, individualized care with convenient access to all cancer services and care.

The McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment & Research offers natural light, a cascading water wall, garden views, and relaxing furnishings to inspire, sooth and comfort patients and family members. Patients can also easily manage their physician appointments and infusion or radiation treatments all in one location. In addition, they can participate in cancer research and meet with an oncology navigator or social worker without ever leaving the cancer center.

Services and staff available in the Center for Cancer Treatment & Research include:
Infusion Services is the intravenous delivery of fluids and medicines into the bloodstream over a period of hours, such as chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer.

Radiation Oncology is the delivery of radiation treatment to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors while minimizing harm to the surrounding healthy tissue.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is a radiation therapy procedure that uses special equipment to position the patient and precisely deliver a large radiation dose to a tumor in the brain or body over a shorter amount of time and with fewer treatments.

Cancer Research – McLeod offers patients access to national state-of-the-art cancer research trials for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Areas of cancer clinical research available at McLeod include: Brain Cancer, Breast Cancer, Head and Neck Cancer, Leukemia, Multiple Myeloma, Pancreatic Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Sarcoma, Small or Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer as well as several prevention trials.

Oncology and Pulmonology Offices – McLeod Oncology and Hematology Associates and McLeod Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates are conveniently located on the second floor of the McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment & Research. With these physicians all located within the Center, patients can easily manage their physician appointments and cancer treatments.

Navigators are available to the patient to make sure all of their questions are answered and to assist them in locating resources within the McLeod system and community.

The Oncology Pharmacists work alongside physicians and nurses to recommend, implement and monitor treatment plans for patients with cancer in addition to managing supportive care issues such as nausea and pain.

The Infusion Pharmacy is a specialty pharmacy that prepares intravenous medications used in the treatment of cancer. Staff members are specially trained in the preparation and dispensing of the medication. In addition, the pharmacists working in this area provide education to patients regarding medication side effects as well as other supportive services.

Oncology Social Worker – This certified Oncology Social Worker provides a range of support services to cancer patients and their families, including counseling, connecting patients to support groups and programs, making appropriate referrals to community resources, and providing information/assistance with transportation and financial concerns including Disability and Medicaid.

Philanthropic funding was an essential element in the plans for the establishment of the new McLeod Center for Cancer Treatment & Research. The One Vision, One Future Campaign for McLeod Health is the largest capital campaign in the history of the McLeod Foundation. Countless volunteers dedicated their efforts for four years to share the value of improved services, new technology and an enhanced patient environment that would be available to all seeking this care. Nearly 1,200 donors from across the region and beyond responded generously by contributing more than $6.5 million dollars to the campaign.
