The Dillon Christian School Warriors battled their way to a 75-73 win over Spartanburg Christian in the first round of the SCISA Class 2A playoffs in Columbia on Saturday.
Dillon Christian’s Jim Carr scored five three-pointers in the second half to boost the Warriors, but the game came down to the final moments, with Dillon Christian’s Luke Price hitting one of two free throw attempts to give the Warriors the 75-73 lead with 1.5 seconds left in the game. With 1.9 on the clock, Spartanburg’s Austin Turner had a chance to steal the win with a jump shot, but missed.
Tyler Davis led the Warriors with a team-high 25 points with 14 rebounds in the win. Will Brown scored 18, Jim Carr added 15, and Luke Price scored 12 ,with Matthew Price earning four and Mark Minges adding one point in the win.
Spartanburg Christian’s Adam Patrick scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Spartanburg Warriors. Austin Turner earned 21 points and Luke Thompson added 10 points in the effort.
The Dillon Christian Warriors improved to 12-7 with win and will advance to the next round. Spartanburg Christian was eliminated, ending a bid for a ninth straight state championship appearance. The Spartanburg Warriors finish the season with a 13-15 record.
Dillon Christian was scheduled to face Thomas Sumter on Tuesday night at Wilson Hall at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the State Semi-Finals on Thursday at Sumter Civic Center.
Thomas Sumter edged Trinity-Byrnes 55-54 in the first round with Carlton Washington scoring a game-high 21 points in the win. The Generals improved to 12-8 as they advanced to the second round of playoffs.
