The Dillon Wildcats picked up a 77-66 win over Marion on Friday night but fell 55-54 to Aynor on Saturday in Region 8-2A boys varsity basketball.
The Wildcats took a 20-15 lead in the first quarter against Marion and went 20-14 in the second to lead 40-29 at the half. Marion rallied for a 21-14 third quarter, but the Wildcats outscored the swamp Foxes 23-17 in the fourth to seal the win.
Dillon’s Jalik Bethea scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Wildcats while Terry Wiggins led Marion with 30.
On Saturday, the Wildcats traveled to Aynor for a makeup game against the Blue Jackets and fell 55-54 as Aynor picked up their first win of the season.
Jalik Bethea led Dillon in the effort with 14 points and Joe Manning and Avery McCall each added 10. JaQuan Knowlin scored seven; Julius Saunders, 5; Gabe Salmon, Jr., 3; Gerome McLeod, 3; and Eri’Reon Hayes, 2.
Aynor’s Zack Jenerette earned 14 points to lead the Blue Jackets in their first win and Brandon Young added 12 with Caleb Jenerette earning 11. Austin Windham scored nine; Nathan Peeples added seven; and Jackson Woodle contributed two.
The Wildcats are now 15-6 overall and 4-4 in Region 8-2A.
Both Mullins and Marion have clinched playoff spots, even after Waccamaw upset the Auctioneers last week with a 52-49 win. Mullins is now 7-1 in the region, while Marion is 5-2. Mullins can clinch the region title this week with a win over Marion on Wednesday, but Marion could set up a tie for the title if they win all three of their scheduled games.
Dillon and Waccamaw are tied for third in the region at 4-4 with two games remaining. The Wildcats were scheduled to travel to Loris on Monday night while Waccamaw was scheduled to be at Marion.
Dillon and Waccamaw were scheduled to face each other on Wednesday to close out the regular season.
