Dillon’s Anthony Blue signed to play football for Newberry College on Friday, February 7.

Blue started as a cornerback but moved to running back in his junior year, rushing for over 1,000 yards. In his senior season, he picked up 1,666 yards and 25 touchdowns, and was chosen for the North-South game where he played defensive back. He will likely play defensive back in college for the Wolves.

As a 2-year starter, he earned All Region honors as well as the Tommy Magnum award and the Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year award.

Blue has been playing football since he was 10 years old. He also plays basketball and baseball and wants to major in sports management. He also likes to read in his down time.

Blue said he has learned a lot from his time at Dillon, and will always remember football nights and especially running through the tunnel at the state championship game.

“Four years ago Anthony probably would not have had the opportunity to play,” Coach Jackie Hayes said. “But good things happen to those who do the right thing. He can be a big D1 player.”

Blue said he will always remember Hayes’ talks.

“He told me to play hard so we can win another state title,” Blue said. “And he taught me that it was a team effort.”

“It’s a blessing to get to play in college,” Blue said. “I appreciate the opportunity. I’m happy to be playing football.”
