The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Commission has approved contracts to resurface more than 270 roads in 33 counties in the first group of projects approved under Act 98 using revenue collected from the state vehicle sales tax.
Roads to be resurfaced in Dillon County include: Joann Branch Road, Edward Avenue, and William Avenue.
The SCDOT engineering staff received bids for the projects in December 2013 and the Commission approved the construction contracts at its Jan. 16th meeting, just six months after Act 98 was signed into law by Governor Nikki Haley after the legislation was passed by the General Assembly.
Act 98, signed into law in 2013, provides additional revenue for SCDOT to replace bridges, resurface roads not eligible for federal funding and fund a series of interstate projects through the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank (SCTIB).
