The Dillon Christian School Warriors fell to the Marlboro Academy Dragons on Tuesday night in Bennettsville with the Lady Warriors taking a 65-18 loss and the boys falling 68-47.
In girls action, Marlboro took a 23-3 lead and outscored the Lady Warriors in every quarter for the win, leading 40-9 at halftime and outscoring Dillon Christian 25-9 in the second half.
Katherine Holmes scored a game-high 16 points to lead Marlboro Academy and Kellie Crowley added 15 and Mary Gibson Stanton earned 11. Destiny Day scored 7; Courtney Odom, 6; Kristen Crowley, 4; Brooke Simmons, 2; Emma Covington, 2; and Betsy Covington, 2.
Samantha Carpenter led the Warriors with a team-high 10 points with Jamie Carpenter adding seven and Greta Seay earning one.
In boys basketball, Marlboro jumped out to a 24-9 lead in the first quarter and was ahead 33-19 at halftime. The Warriors rallied to go 16-13 in the third quarter, but a 22-12 fourth from Marlboro sealed the win for the Dragons.
Marlboro’s Stephen Andrews scored a game-high 22 points with Kyle Blair adding 17 and John Rhett Covington earning 11. Chase Bruner added 8; Walton Calhoun, 2; Luke Powers, 2; and John Beaty, 6.
Tyler Davis led the Warriors with 17 points in the effort, with Will Brown scoring 12 and Mark Minges adding 11. Matthew Price earned five points and Jim Carr added two for Dillon Christian.
The Warriors slipped to 6-4 overall and 4-4 in SCISA Region 4-2A while the Dragons improved to 8-5. The Lady Dragons improved to 9-4 and 4-4 in the region, while the Lady Warriors remain winless.
Dillon Christian will be on the road again on Friday to face Robert E. Lee Academy, but the Warriors will be back at home on Tuesday to host Williamsburg Academy with junior varsity action beginning at 4:00 p.m. with varsity action following. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
