The Mullins Auctioneers battled the Dillon Wildcats down to the buzzer on Friday night with Jalek Felton sinking two free throws with just over a second on the clock to give Mullins an 80-78 win over Dillon in boys varsity basketball.

Dillon took a 25-18 lead in the first quarter, but Mullins fired back in the second, outscoring Dillon 30-14 for a 48-39 halftime lead. The Wildcats rallied in the third, going 22-11 to take a 61-59 lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams poured in the points in the fourth, and with just over five minutes on the clock, the Auctioneers were down 68-61. But Mullins went on a scoring run to tie things up at 78, and with 1.1 seconds on the clock, Felton sank two free throws to give Mullins the win.

Alex Brown led Mullins with a game-high 31 points and Felton added 26 in the win. Paul Stackhouse scored 9; Nizhon Powell, 7; Malik McGill, 4; and Will Ford, 3.

Dillon’s JaQuan Knowlin scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Wildcats in the effort with Tyreik McAllister adding 14, Gerome McLeod adding 13, and Julius Saunders earning 10. Jalik Bethea and Joe Manning each added seven, Anthony Blue added five, and Lawrence Crouch added two.

Dillon fell to 12-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-2A while Mullins improved to 8-6 overall with a 1-0 record in the region.

Dillon will be at home to host Marion tonight, Loris on Friday, and Waccamaw on Tuesday, January 28. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams!
