Dillon County Fire Station One assisted by the City of Dillon battled a fire in one of the buildings at Sunflower Apartments on Wednesday night.
Station One Fire Chief Charlie Bailey said the department responded to the fire at Sunflower Apartments, formerly known as St. Stephens Apartments, at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. They stayed on the scene until approximately 8:45 p.m. Bailey said the fire was through the roof before they arrived on scene. The city provided mutual aid at this fire.
Bailey said it appears that the fire started in a second story bedroom, but he doesn’t know the cause of the fire. He said there is nothing suspicious about the fire. Bailey said that the fire has displaced four families. He said no one was hurt, but the building appears to be totaled. Bailey said that this is the same building that burned in November.
James Leslie of the Dillon County Chapter of the American Red Cross said the Red Cross has served three families for a total of 12 people by providing emergency assistance. He said all three families went to a motel for three nights and were provided food and clothing.
