Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 63-39 win over Marion’s Lady Swamp Foxes on Tuesday night in Marion in the girls basketball season opener.

Latta outscored Marion 15-10 in the first quarter and 27-7 in the second for a 42-17 lead at the half. The Lady Vikings kept up the pressure in the third, outscoring Marion 12-9 for a 54-26 lead. The Swamp Foxes rallied for a 13-9 fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

Takeria Legette scored a game-high 35 points and made 15 assists to lead Latta in the win. Jessica Evans and Brittany Burgess each added seven points for the Lady Vikings, and Malory Townsend and Maya Wright each scored six. Madelia Johnson added two points in the win.

Ariaher Morrisay scored a team-high eight points to lead Marion, with Laquasha Williams adding seven and Shatora Dunkin and Zakiya Mason each adding six. Laquisha Kinney scored four points, and Angelica Ellison, Shayriah Johnson, and Imanni Vereen each added two, with Lonesha Bethea and Kyra Daniels each adding one.

The Lady Vikings start the season with a 1-0 record. Latta will be at Mullins on Tuesday, December 10, but will be at home to host Mullins on Tuesday, December 17, and Marion on Thursday, December 19.
