McLeod Medical Center Dillon is pleased to announce that Katie Jarvis, M.D. has joined the McLeod Dillon Medical Staff as a McLeod Hospitalist.
A Hospitalist is a physician who is based in the medical center and is devoted solely to caring for hospitalized patients.
“The Hospitalist is the patient’s best advocate,” said Dr. Jarvis. “They are connected to all of the hospital’s resources, including diagnostic testing and specialist physicians. They are there to listen to your problems, to piece together your story, and to make sure you get the very best care.”
Dr. Jarvis chose to go into medicine after undergoing brain surgery as a young college student.
“Hospital medicine is very exciting for me,” she added. “I treat patients when they are at their sickest, when family members are scared and they both want answers. I can relate to that, having been a patient and a family member.
“McLeod Dillon is a fantastic facility with great people. I am very impressed with the nursing staff and the Hospitalist Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.
They are very bright and genuinely concerned with their patients’ well being.”
Dr. Jarvis grew up in Texas. She has two dogs and enjoys going to the movies, traveling, and talking with people. “I am adventuresome, and I think that is a good quality for a Hospitalist to have,” she said. “I won’t let anything stand in the way of providing great care to my patients.”
Dr. Jarvis is very involved in medical mission work, including a yearly trip to Honduras she participates in with a team building an orphanage.
