Latta’s Anna Rogers signed on to play softball for North Greenville University on Friday, November 15.

Rogers began pitching for the Lady Vikings in seventh grade and earned an outstanding record, pitching 128 innings in 23 games last season with a win/loss record of 13-8. She struck out 230 and allowed just 75 hits, 51 runs, and 31 earned runs with an ERA of 1.695 and a WHIP of 1.047. She also plays first base.

Rogers has been playing softball since she was nine years old, and credits her father for her love of the sport. She also plays volleyball and is a cheerleader for the Vikings.

Rogers received several offers from other schools before choosing North Greenville.

“I like North Greenville because of coming from Latta,” she said. “North Greenville is a small school and I really like the softball program there.”

Rogers plans to use the leadership skills she learned during her time at Latta when she transitions to the college level, but she will always remember fondly the Vikings’ trip to the state championship two years ago.

“Hopefully we’ll go again this year,” she said. Last season, the Lady Vikings fell 1-0 to East Clarendon in the Lower State Championship.

“She has really worked hard to get where she is today,” said her father, Buddy Rogers. “She is always practicing pitching. She’s awesome. She will do a great job for them.”

“We are very proud of Anna because she works really hard,” her mother, Lori Ann, added. “She puts her faith in the Lord, and she has lots of family and friends to support her.”

Her sister, Maegan Bolding, added that “Anna has worked for a long a time. When she first began, she struggled to get the ball across the plate. Now, she’s at a point where it’s a wonderful culmination to all her endurance. she has taught everyone about persistence and hard work. She is one of the hardest workers I know.

“North Greenville is a small school and a great fit for her,” she added, “because it is a lot like Latta.”
Latta coach Kimberly Griffith echoed Bolding’s sentiments. “Anna takes the initiative,” she said. “No one works harder than she does.”

Latta Athletic Director Aaron Miles said that Anna epitomizes a true student athlete.

“She dedicates her time and talents to both classroom and athletic endeavors. She is the first student to pursue the International Baccalaureate diploma at Latta High School. We wish her continued success at North Greenville University.”

The signing was attended by Rogers’ family, coaches, and her fellow Lady Vikings.
