Both the Latta Vikings and the Johnsonville Flashes were eliminated Friday night in the first round of the Class A, Division I playoffs.
In their first postseason appearance since 2003, the seventh-seeded Latta Vikings fell 14-8 to second seed Allendale-Fairfax on Friday night. The Tigers got on the board first for eight points in the second quarter, and added a touchdown in the fourth for the win. Latta scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Latta’s Donell Stanley, who recently committed to USC, had five tackles, two for loss. The Vikings finished the season with a 7-4 record.
Allendale-Fairfax improved to 8-2 on the season and will move on to face Hemingway, who defeated St. John’s 27-12 in the first round.
Meanwhile, the fourth-seeded Johnsonville Flashes fell 26-7 to fifth-seed Estill on Friday night. Last season, the two teams met for the lower state title with Johnsonville advancing with a 35-24 win. This season, the Flashes finish with an 8-3 record while Estill improves to 9-2.
The Gators will travel to top-seeded Carvers Bay on Friday night. The Bears defeated Baptist Hill 48-20 in the first round.
