This year at Dillon Christian School students in grades K5-6th grade have embarked on a new Literacy Program called the Daily 5.  This program is a student-driven management structure designed to fully engage students in reading and writing.  The Daily 5 Literacy Program encourages students to become independent learners and life-long readers, while integrating reading and writing.  The 5 components, or stations, consist of: Read-to-Self, Read-to-Someone, Work-on-Writing, Word-Work, and Listen-to-Reading. The students in grades 2nd-6th have also created individual Data Notebooks which consists of Reading Logs, Graphing Sheets for each subject, and Writing Samples, along with any other materials chosen by their teacher.  Each student also has their own reading basket filled with books of their choice, based on their independent reading level and interest.  Our goal is to create students who will become lovers of reading and writing.
