UPDATE: The band finished fourth in the state competition.

The Latta High School Marching Vikings traveled to Hartsville’s Kellytown stadium on Saturday to perform their news broadcast themed show entitled “This Just In” in the Lower State Championship.  Nine 1A bands competed in hopes of qualifying for the State Marching Band Championships by finishing in the top six.

The Marching Vikings clinched 1st place by one hundredth of a point over Batesburg-Leesville.  This is the first time that the Marching Vikings have won Lower State since 2008. They will travel to Batesburg-Leesville this Saturday, October 26th, to compete among the top bands from upper and lower state alike for a final placement for the 2013 marching season. Their performance time is 9:30 p.m. and the Awards Ceremony will begin at 10:15 p.m. We would like to invite all who are willing to come out and support the Marching Vikings this weekend! “There is nothing more encouraging and exciting than performing for a large group of hometown fans!” according to Ms. Margot Griggs, Director of Bands.  “I believe that no one rises to low expectations so I continually push them to be the very best they can be.  It is nice to see all of their hard work paying off!”
