Latta lineman Donell Stanley has been named one of five finalists for the title of “Mr. Football” for the state of South Carolina.
Stanley, one of the state’s top prospects, verbally committed to play for the University of South Carolina on Friday. The 6’4”, 300-lb. lineman was also selected for the U.S. Army All-America Bowl and the Shrine Bowl. The senior had 60 tackles and six sacks in his first six games this season and made 82 tackles and nine sacks in his junior year.
The finalists were selected by the South Carolina Athletics Coaches Association. The winner will be introduced during the halftime presentation of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl (formerly the North-South All Star game) in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, December 14.
The award was established in 1995 by the SCACA and the announcement of the winner is part of the week of activities leading up to the annual all-star football game.
The other finalists include linebacker Christian Miller of Spring Valley High School in Columbia; Jae’lon Oglesby, a running back from Daniel High in Central; quarterback Jacob Park of Stratford High in Goose Creek; and quarterback Mason Rudolph of Northwestern High in Rock Hill.
