The Latta Vikings shut out the visiting Creek Bridge Warriors 53-0 on Friday night in varsity football action.

R.J. McClam led the Vikings with four touchdowns, beginning with a 75-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Latta quarterback Kel Williamson connected for a touchdown pass and connected with Jordan Smith for a second touchdown with 5:10 remaining in the quarter. Chase Ray kicked two out of three point attempts to leave the Vikings up 20-0 at the end of the first quarter.

McClam struck again in the second on a 62-yard touchdown, and Eric Grice carried for another to put Latta up 32-0 at the half. The Vikings returned to the field to post 21 more points in the second half for the 53-0 win.

McClam rushed for 330 yards on 16 carries to lead the offense, and Davonta Porter made six tackles and two interceptions to lead the Viking defense.

The Vikings improved to 4-2 as they opened region play in Region 8-A.

Latta will be on the road this Friday, October 11, to face the Johnsonville Flashes at 7:30 p.m. The Flashes are 4-2 this season and have one of the region’s best backs in Tushai Edwards. The rival Flashes will likely be Latta’s toughest challenge in the remaining regular season.

Also on Friday, Latta’s Donell Stanley is expected to announce his college choice. The lineman is one of the state’s top prospects and has fielded offers from many schools, but had narrowed the list down to four: South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, and Alabama.
