Latta’s Lady Vikings took losses from Dillon’s Lady Wildcats, Lake View’s Lady Gators and Johnsonville’s Flashes in recent varsity volleyball action.

Latta hosted Dillon on Monday, September 23, for a 3-0 loss with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-21.

Latta’s Morgan Monahan made seven aces and three kills, Maggie Sloan made seven assists, and Mckenzi Caniglia made six digs for the Lady Vikings.

Dillon’s Da’Kerhia Samuel made 14 kills, three blocks, two digs, two aces, and an assist to lead Dillon, and Rebecca Callahan made 16 assists, 12 digs, and five aces in the win. Breana Park made four kills, three blocks, one dig, and one assist; Johnna Rogers made seven digs and one ace; Leah McMillan made seven digs and two kills; Holly Vaughn made five digs, two aces, two assists, and one kill; Mariah Murphy made four digs; Desiree McLain made three kills and one dig; and D’Angela Graham added one kill.

Samuel scored 10 service points in the win; Callahan, 9; Rogers, 9; Vaughn, 8; McMillan, 5; Turner, 3; Murphy, 2; and McLain, 1.

The Lady Vikings next hosted Lake View on Wednesday, September 25, winning the first game 25-21, but falling 25-23, 25-21, and 25-22 in the next three to give the Lady Gators the 3-1 win.

Maggie Sloan made 26 assists in the game and Cora Owens made nine kills. Morgan Monahan scored five aces and Tristan Martin made five digs for the Lady Vikings.

Taylor Tarte led Lake View with 11 kills and Morgan Herlong made 14 assists and four aces. Kayce Wong and Amber Locklear each made 10 kills for the Lady Gators and Desiree Strickland made eight. Wong also made three aces and scored 18 service points, with Herlong adding 15 and Marissa Tyndall earning 16.

On Monday, September 30, the Latta girls traveled to Johnsonville and were swept 3-0 by the Lady Flashes with scores of 25-6, 25-16, and 25-16.

Cora Owens made 12 assists and four kills to lead Latta with Tristan Martin making four digs and Morgan Monahan scoring two aces.

Cayley Gunter made 10 kills with six aces to lead Johnsonville, and Marley Young made eight assists for the Flashes.

With the week’s games, Latta is now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in Region 8-A. Lake View improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the region, and Johnsonville is now 10-1 overall and 2-0 in region play.

Latta was scheduled to be at Marion on Wednesday night and hosted Carvers Bay on Thursday. On Monday, October 7, the Lady Vikings will be in Lake View to face the Gators at 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!

The Lady Gators were scheduled to be at Johnsonville on Wednesday and will wrap up region play against Latta on Monday night in Lake View.

Meanwhile, Dillon’s Lady Wildcats were scheduled to be at Mullins on Thursday and at Marion on Tuesday, October 8, with both games starting at 6:00 p.m.
