To The Editor:
I have known Selisa Inman-Scott for nearly thirty-five (35) years. From the time that I met her, she distinguished herself as an individual with a pure and loyal spirit. She also had the trait of an organizer. She was a girl when I met her, and these attributes have developed as she has matured. Now as a wife / mother, a leading official in her church, and a contributor to her community, Lisa has taken a most courageous stand not only for herself and her child, but as a voice for the voice-less, an advocate for those who are most readily forgotten. I must commend her and those who support the work of YANA. Our elder child was challenged with physical set-backs due to her premature birth, obstacles that she has confronted and overcome by the help of God and the diligence of her mother, another courageous lady. My part has been small compared to hers, but I know the sensitivity of a parent’s heart when he or she must contextualize that precious child in contrast to what everyone else knows as “normalcy”. To move past this – or, more accurately, to bear this – and to become a blessing to an entire community of children and parents who have these unique challenges, takes a special grace. That’s what Selisa Scott has, and is… a special grace for a special need. “And He said unto me ‘My grace is sufficient for thee; for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ ” II Corinthians 12:9
