City Manager Glen Wagner reported at the Dillon City Council meeting that he, Councilman Johnny Eller, and Councilwoman Connie Manning had visited two splash pads.
They visited splash pads at Lynches River and the City of Hartsville. He said one was haphazardly put together and the other was planned out totally.
Wagner said that during a six-week period the splash pad at Lynches River generated approximately $36,000 and spent about $20,000. The Hartsville splash pad generated about $50,000, and he was not sure about their expenses. Wagner said he would come back next month with revenues and expenses for splash pads around the state.
Wagner said the splash pads required very little staffing and the daily cost was not high. He said they charged about $2-3 per person or sold season passes. Wagner said the problem they had in Hartsville was that too many people showed up.
Wagner said it was like seeing a Cadillac versus a Pinto.
He said the people who designed the splash pad in Hartsville are the ones that he has been talking to, and he will get that information together and have it for the October meeting.
