Kelvin Stackhouse rushed for a game high 195 yards and two touchdowns as the Dillon Christian School Warriors defeated the Kings Academy Lions of Florence 16-6 on Friday night at Warrior Field to even their record at 1-1.

The Lion’s lone score came with only a minute and seven seconds left in the game when they caught an exhausted Warrior defense standing flatfooted for a second. The defense recovered and stopped the two point conversion. The Warrior defenders held the Lions to a total of 166 yards, most of which came through the air.

Warrior quarterback Will Brown has proven to be one of the better kicker/punters in Warrior school history and Friday night he booted a 30-yard field goal to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead with 6:16 left in the first quarter. The ball looked as if it could have been backed an additional 20 yards and still been good for 3. The first quarter would end with this score.

On the first play of the second quarter, Stackhouse got his first touchdown on a one-yard run with 11:53 left in the second quarter. The kick barely missed, leaving the Warriors up 9-0 with the first half ending with this score. On their first possession of the second half, the Warriors marched three quarters the length of the field and capped off the push with a four-yard touchdown run by Kelvin Stackhouse for his second of the game. Brown’s kick put the Warrior lead at 16-0 with 8:09 left in the third quarter.

The Warriors appeared to be playing ball control and using the clock but the Lions were on the go with the pass attack. Just when it looked as if the game was over, Dowell Toller hauled in a two-yard pass and raced 80 yards untouched for the Lions’ only score with 1:07 left in the game. The conversion was stopped, leaving the final score Warriors 16, Lion 6.
