Mr. Wilbur J. “Bill” Summerford, age 92, widower of the late Zylphia (Bea) Summerford, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, after an illness.
Born in the Bristow Community of Marlboro County, SC, on September 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Jackson Summerford and Elizabeth Alford Summerford. He attended the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired car saleman with Arnette Motor’s in Dillon. He was also a farmer and an auctioneer and was one of the first auctioneers’s to work with B & W Auction Company in Dillon. His passion was playing his guitar and singing gospel music. He will be remembered as a Christian man who loved his family and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessie Hudson of Dillon, Sheila Kegley and husband Gene of Lancaster, SC, Shelley Herring of Little River, SC and Renea Hargrove of Dillon; a son, Bo Summerford  and his wife Frankie of Dillon; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; a special family member and caretaker, Rose Summerford of Latta; a special friend, Elbert Coxe of Dillon.
Funeral services were held 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Family visitation washeld at the Bristow Free Will Baptist Church  Fellowship Center on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.
Mr. Bill was preceded in death by his parents & wife listed above; by two sons, Jack Summerford & Tony Emanuel; and by a daughter in law, Dottie Summerford.
