More than 450 Dillon District Four school employees, along with district School Resource Officers (SROs), local law enforcement officers and State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) officers, participated in a district emergency preparedness training at Dillon Middle School on August 14.
The purpose of the training session was to provide personnel with procedural information related to active shooters and school intruders.
Dillon District Four custodians, bus drivers, food service employees, office staff, assistants, teachers and administrators took part in the district sponsored preparedness training.
Wayne Freeman, SLED agent, presented the safety program.  He gave background history on incidents that have affected schools in the past and he provided information on procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.
School principals will develop individual School Crisis Plans.  School personnel and district administrators will discuss crisis information monthly at scheduled meetings.  Individual schools will practice fire, tornado, earthquake, evacuation, lockdown and active shooter drills with students on a monthly basis to ensure that they know what to do and where to go in the event of an emergency.
Providing a safe and secure workplace for staff and students is of utmost concern for the district administration and local board.
